Former Sopranos star James Gandolfini may be returning to HBO in a new project based on a U.K. crime series. According to Deadline.com, Gandolfini has signed on to star in a pilot called Criminal Justice, a New York-set adaptation of the critically acclaimed BBC series of the same name.
Gandolfini will play Jack Stone, “a disheveled jailhouse lawyer wearing cheap suits and sandals, who trolls for clients at police precincts.” The story revolves around Stone representing a young Pakistani-American man who wakes up after a drunken night next to a woman who’s been stabbed to death. Gandolfini will also serve as the show’s exec producer. The pilot will be shot this fall; if all goes well, the show would likely debut sometime next year.
