The season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance propelled Fox to the top of the Twitterverse yet again, continuing a social-media winning streak that saw the House finale and the season’s final two episodes of American Idol dominate Twitter this week.
Fans who took to Twitter were generally just glad the show has returned for another season. “WOO HOO! #Sytycd is BACK!” read one tweet, while another opined, “Nothing says ‘It’s Summertime!’ like #sytycd.” Let’s just hope the always-addictive dance competition doesn’t lead to grade-point averages plummeting: “Finals? What finals? #SYTCD is on!”
With just over 200,000 tweets, SYTYCD was last night’s clear winner on Twitter, followed by the season premiere of ABC’s Duets, a new singing contest in which contestants sing along with stars such as Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, which racked up more than 85,000 tweets.
This was followed by a reruns of The Big Bang Theory and Vampire Diaries in third and fourth place, respectively. Rounding up Twitter’s top 10 were The Ellen DeGeneres Show at No. 5, NBC’s Today at No. 6, The NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams at No. 7, followed by the season premiere of Rookie Blue, the season finale of Awake and a rebroadcast of America’s Got Talent, which is poised to take off in the coming weeks — both in terms or ratings and Twitter — now that Idol and Dancing With the Stars have wrapped up.
