The nominations were announced today for the first annual Canadian Screen Awards — a new award that combines the Genies and the Geminis — and Shaw Media landed 86 nominations.
“Shaw Media’s robust slate of original programming has experienced an incredible year, and to see our team and our independent production partners recognized for their excellent work makes it that much more celebratory,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content for Shaw Media in a statement. “Through a tremendous amount of drive, persistence and imagination, we have created programs unmatched in originality, production values, writing and performances.”
Global received 30 nominations, while Shaw specialty channels racked up 44 nominations and Global News received a record 12 nods.
Leading the pack was Global’s Bomb Girls, which received seven nominations (including a nod for Best Dramatic Series), while Rookie Blue was a close second with five nominations.
Martin Short will host the first annual Canadian Screen Awards when they’re held on March 3 in Toronto. The two-hour gala will be aired live on CBC.
