If ever there was a show that illustrated the difference in taste between American and Canadian TV viewers, it’s CTV’s Raising Hope, which was a colossal bomb on NBC but a summertime hit for CTV.

The shot-in-Toronto medical drama about a surgeon (Smallville‘s Erica Durance) and her comatose surgeon boyfriend (Michael Shanks) who hovers between life and death like a pseudo-ghost has regularly been in the top 10 in Canadian ratings, but not in the U.S.; in fact, Saving Hope ranked as one of NBC’s all-time lowest-rated series. NBC shuttled the show off to the TV wasteland of Saturday nights, and has now opted not to air the season’s final two episodes.

Here in Canada, however, ratings have been fantastic, leading CTV to give the show an early second-season renewal back in July.

If you want to watch the season finale, CTV (not NBC) plans to air it on Wednesday, September 13
