With her self-named Oprah Winfrey Network continuing to sink like a stone, erstwhile talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey is in talks with HBO to develop a new drama for the pay-cable channel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the untitled project centers on a wealthy academic who has become the first black president of a prestigious liberal arts college. He and his family are thrust into national headlines, forcing them to present an idyllic public façade, all while engaging in agonizing personal battles and struggling with dark obsessions.”

Personally, a show about a college professor and his family sounds like a big ol’ snooze, unless his “dark obsession” causes him to become a serial killer, a meth kingpin or the head of New Jersey crime family.
