A few days ago, Meredith Vieira announced that she would be leaving the syndicated edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire after 10 seasons, issuing a statement saying, “I am about to embark on a new adventure with NBC.” If The New York Times is to be believed, that adventure will involve Matt Lauer’s former host on Today launching her own daytime talk show.

According to The New York Times, insiders say Viera is in “preliminary discussions” with NBCUniversal to helm her own daytime talk show to launch in fall 2014. No official announcement is expected, since the 2014-15 TV season is still a long way off.

If Vieira does enter the competitive talk-show fray, it’s expected that her new show would take over the time slot that, in most major markets, is presently filled by the ratings-challenged Jeff Probst Show, which will probably be a distant memory by September 2014.
