Unless you speak Spanish, you probably didn’t catch last night’s broadcast of Latin-themed award show Premios Juventud, a sort of Latin version of this weekend’s Teen Choice Awards honouring the best in Latin music movies, music and culture. Aired on U.S. Spanish-language broadcast Univision, last night’s show captured a whopping 923,466 tweets. Held in Miami, the awards honoured celebs such as Antonio Banderas, Sofia Vergara and singer Prince Royce (pictured above), the night’s big winner with eight awards.
Demonstrating the emerging growth of Spanish-language television on American airwaves, Twitter’s No. 2 show last night was Univision’s Noche de Estrellas (“night of stars”), the awards’ red-carpet pre-show, which racked up more than 150,000 tweets.
The top English-language broadcast on Twitter was last night’s episode of Big Brother, with just over 92,000 tweets, with other entries in the top 10 including reruns of The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries and Two and a Half Men. The season finale of Duets claimed 10th place, with the ABC singing competition bringing in just over 15,000 tweets.
