Last night’s broadcast of the MuchMusic Video Awards, featuring co-hosts Katy Perry and LMFAO, was a big hit in the world of social media, with more than a half-million tweets devoted to the annual awards show.
The MMVAs was Twitter’s hottest non-sports broadcast of last night; the top dog was ABC’s NBA Heat-Thunder game, with more than 1.8 million tweets, while the Netherlands-vs.-Portugal soccer match racked up about 787,000 tweets.
Otherwise, it was a slow night for TV-related tweets. There were just under 200,000 tweets for the season’s second episode of True Blood (compared to a mere 34,973 for the season finale of HBO’s Girls).
Speaking of season finales, the finale of The Killing — which actually revealed the identity of the killer — was responsible for generating less than 42,000 tweets, far less than the 64,000-plus devoted to last night’s installment of Keepin Up With the Kardashians.
