Was the Teen Choice Awards actually a tryout for a bigger stage? This could be the case for Glee star Kevin McHale, who portrays wheelchair-bound Artie on the Fox hit and is now rumoured to be in talks to co-host The X Factor when Simon Cowell’s talent show returns in September.

According to TV Guide, 24-year-old McHale is reportedly “under consideration” for the job, left vacant after former host Steve Jones was fired after a single season of inoffensive blandness. Cowell has hinted that he wants to replace Jones with a male-female co-hosting team, and rumour has it that Cowell and his X Factor producers were impressed with McHale’s performance at last month’s Teen Choice Awards, which he co-hosted with rookie X Factor judge Demi Lovato. If he gets the job, McHale will still keep his day job at McKinley High and will remain a cast-member of Glee during its fourth season.

The X Factor’s second season is set to debut on September 13, and is still host-less. Other names that are being mentioned in connection to the job include Kelly Osbourne, Erin Andrews and Khloe Kardashian.
