Looks the rumours are true about former American Idol judges being brought in as judges next season, with E! News reporting that Jennifer Hudson has already signed on and Kelly Clarkson — despite earlier denials from her rep — is very close to signing a deal as well.

According to E!, producers want to return to a three-judge setup, and the short list for the third judge includes Idol runners-up Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken.

“It’s Idol alums bringing in the next generation,” says an unnamed behind-the-scenes source, indicating the idea behind this move is remind viewers how many stars the show has created over the course of its 12 seasons, and hopefully boost ratings.

Nothing official yet, but if Hudson has indeed signed a deal, expect an announcement from Fox to come soon.

How lucky can one guy get? First John Cochrane wins the million-dollar prize as victor of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites, and now he’s just landed a gig as a writer on a new sitcom starring Arrested Development‘s Will Arnett.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cochrane issued a tweet reading, “I’m thrilled to announce that I’m going to be a writer on the new CBS sitcom ‘The Millers’ (with Will Arnett, Margo Martindale, and more)!” The Hollywood Reporter investigated, and confirmed that Cochrane had indeed joined the writing staff of the show, created by Raising Hope‘s Greg Garcia.

During the Survivor finale’s live reunion show, Cochrane revealed he was giving serious consideration to quitting his job as a lawyer to pursue his dream of writing for Hollywood. “[It's] an abstract aspiration at this point,” he said. “I’ve always been a good writer in school…maybe I’ll write some sort of screenplay, or comedy writing. Then I start thinking, am I really that funny, or am I just deluding myself?”

The Millers is set to debut this fall on CBS.

The next time you head to Florida’s Universal Orlando theme park, prepare to chow down on an artery-clogging Krusty Burger and wash it down with a frosty Duff beer while immersing yourself in the park’s newest attraction — a “park-within-a-park” devoted exclusively to The Simpsons.

The park already hosts the engaging Simpsons ride, but this ride will now be at the centre of a number of other Springfield-themed attractions, including the Android’s Dungeon Baseball Card Shop, Lard Lad’s Donuts and Moe’s Tavern — which will serve Duff on tap!

“Fans will literally be able to live and breathe Springfield as they visit the statue of Jebediah, enjoy a Krusty Burger and have a seat at Moe’s Tavern,” said Fox exec Jeffrey Godsick in the announcement.

No opening date has been set, but the Simpsons attractions are expected to be open sometime this summer.

Anticipation is high for Arrested Development fans, who are eagerly awaiting the 15 new episodes that will debut on Netflix on Sunday, May 26 — seven years after the critically acclaimed, still-beloved comedy was cancelled. I spoke with star Jason Bateman about his feelings about the resurrection of the show he still considers “the most fun” he’s had in his career.

With all the other projects you’ve got going on, was it complicated adjusting your schedule to shoot ‘Arrested Development’? “It was a little. They had to shoot me out first because I went on to do another project while they were still shooting, so all my stuff was shot first.”

Was it difficult to get the entire cast back together? “Everybody has always, always been on board from the very beginning, including Michael Cera. That was another erroneous story that got out [that Cera didn't want to return], that got perpetuated, that never got tamped down, so that was sort of weird. So everybody’s always been on board from the very beginning, and I’m just excited that we’re all able to get back together, whether it’s episodes, film, cable, whatever.

Was it easy for you to return to the character after such a long time away from Michael Bluth? “Yeah, well, I’m not Daniel Day Lewis — I’m playing me.”

Did you go back and look at some of the old episodes? “Will [Arnett] and I looked at a few episodes leading up to the start of production, for no other reason than just to get kind of charged up about it again. But there is a rhythm to it that we had to sort of remind ourselves of, kind of a dryness.”

Were people in your own life as eager for the show coming back as the fans are? “I think that they all saw it the way I saw it, which is that it would be really fun to be able to get back together with that group of people. It’s so rare that a group of people can come back together and do something, and have that product be relevant and there be an exciting level of anticipation for it, as opposed to sort of an eye-rolling kind of irrelevance to it. So it’s so nice to be asked to come back together, and actually have all those people want to come back together, too.”

Is it true that even though each episode will be devoted to a different character, Michael is the only character who’ll appear in all the episodes? “I believe so. That’s something [series creator] Mitch [Hurwitz] and I talked about early on, that I understood the creative and financial limitations, and scheduling limitations, but I said to him, I didn’t want to hinder that process at all, in all those areas. So if he wanted to maintain the structure that he started, from the pilot forward, which was that it might be a more relatable experience for the audience if the lens through which you experience all these eccentric characters and storylines be through the sanest lens, then I am available to him if he wants that piece of conduit in every episode.”

Who was your first scene with when you came back, and what did it feel like to be Michael Bluth again? “I think the first scene I did was with Jeffrey [Tambor]. I just remember trying to be as good as I could as quickly as I could, because there was so much to do and say. I mean, we were shooting 15 pages a day at times, where on a movie you shoot two. But [Arrested Development] is the most beneficial thing I’ve ever done in my career for my career, the most fun I’ve ever had in my career, the people I love the most in my career, all those things. It was amazing to be able to be with all of them again. But then I had to remind myself that there was a job to do, and I knew that there are a bunch of people who appreciate the show as much as I do, the fans, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t suck, and that I wasn’t just out there being with Jeffrey and just kind of having fun that day; I wanted to do a good job playing the character, too.”

“As Intervention comes to an end, we’re proud to have paved the way for such an original and groundbreaking series,” said A&E’s executive vice-president David McKillop. “We’re honoured to have been a part of the 243 interventions since its premiere in March of 2005, leading to the 156 individuals that are currently sober to this day.”

The first of the show’s final five episodes will air on June 13.

There could be some big changes coming to the next season of Dancing With the Stars, which will not only be cut down to one night a week but may also revamp its judging panel.

According to a story in The New York Post, an unnamed source reveals that none of the judges “has a signed contract yet. I think Bruno [Tonioli] will be back, but Carrie Ann [Inaba] and Len [Goodman] are probably gone…the network is being very evasive about it.”

In addition, the story also reports that co-host Cheryl Burke may be receiving a pink slip as well. “[The producers] will use this time to figure out how to restructure the show and trim fat off the budget,” says the insider. “The show has become too expensive.”

However, E! News is reporting that just because contracts have yet to be locked in doesn’t mean there will be wholesale changes coming. ”It’s true no one is locked in under contract yet, but that’s not necessarily unusual at this stage,” a different source told E! News. “Nothing has been decided yet about next season. There definitely will be format changes and it’s possible there may be some casting changes but those discussions are just beginning.”

In The Comedians, Crystal will play a veteran comic who reluctantly teams up with a younger, hipper, edgier comedian in a late-night sketch comedy show. No word yet on who’ll play the young comic.

“It truly is an honor to be in business with Billy Crystal and Larry Charles, two of the all-time greats in comedy,” said FX Networks president John Landgraf when he announced the show.

Could former contestants Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken be sitting in judgement of aspiring wannabes in the next season of American Idol?

That’s a distinct possibility, according to Vulture.com, which quotes unnamed sources who say Clarkson and Hudson have already been approached, while Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert have been seriously discussed.

Of course, at this point none of the current judges have officially been dumped — yet — and Randy Jackson is the only one of the four to confirm he won’t be returning next season. However, as Vulture.com points out, Fox execs haven’t exactly been going out of their way to shoot down the persistent rumours of a complete Idol overhaul, and Fox president Kevin Reilly recently admitted that “everything is on the table” when it comes to boosting the show’s sagging ratings.

In another seismic shift in the way viewers consume television series, The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg has signed on to adapt best-selling video game Halo as an interactive live-action series, to air exclusively on the new Xbox One game console.

This represents a big jump for the Xbox, which plans to join Netflix and Amazon in producing its own exclusive content for Xbox One. The series follows in the footsteps of the online web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which is credited with driving sales of the Halo 4 game.

“For me, the Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at the intersection where technology and storytelling meet,” said Spielberg.

Former CBS exec Nancy Tellem, now head of Microsoft Studios, described the Xbox One console as heralding a new era in telvision. “Until now the TV viewing experience has been a one-way street for the viewer,” she said. “Now, that’s about to change. TV on the Xbox will immerse you, enable you to virtually jump into the action.”
