Eddie Murphy’s attempt to reboot his hit film franchise Beverly Hills Cop as a TV series is a go, now that the cop show based on the movies has received a pilot order from CBS.

According to Deadline.com, the TV version of Cop will take a “next generation” approach by following the crime-fighting adventures of Axl Foley’s son, also a police officer. Expect a mix of action and laughs as this fish out of water battles crime in the not-so-mean streets of the 90210.

Murphy is set to appear in the pilot as the elder Foley, now Detroit’s chief of police, although he won’t appear as a series regular. Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder) has been cast as the younger Foley. If all goes well and CBS head honcho Les Moonves likes what he sees, expect Beverly Hills Cop to be the jewel in the crown of CBS’s fall 2013 lineup.
