ABC’s latest American Idol wannabe has proven to be a loser in the ratings battle. Not only was the show a disappointment throughout it’s run, but last night’s season finale was Duets‘ lowest-rated episode ever, with viewers apparently disinterested that somebody named J. Rome was declared the winner during the grand finale.

Despite the presence of former Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Robin Thicke, the duet-singing format was a bust, and I doubt we’ll see this show back for another go-round next year. Lionel Richie, who was originally scheduled to be one of the participants until backing out mysteriously at the last minute, really dodged a bullet with this dud.

This does not bode well for Quintets, a new reality show I just invented in which amateur singers compete to form barbershop quartets to sing old-timey, five-part-harmony versions of Lady Gaga songs.
