Just weeks after NBC’s announcement that it will be turning Bram Stoker’s Dracula into an upcoming TV series comes news that the beleaguered peacock network is developing a historical series based on one of history’s most intriguing figures: Cleopatra.

According to Deadline.com, NBC has ordered a “put pilot” which means a full pilot will be shot and will be aired, regardless of whether or not the network chooses to go ahead with the series, which will reportedly be an “epic romance set in a world of sorcery, gods and monsters.”

As Entertainment Weekly points out, the last time viewers saw the infamous Egyptian queen on the small screen was in HBO’s Rome, in which things didn’t go all that for the celebrated beauty and boyfriend Marc Antony.

No word on who’ll be cast as Cleopatra, although I imagine a showy, high-profile role (played on the big screen by actresses such as Claudette Colbert and Elizabeth Taylor) like this will potentially bring some big names to the table.
