After heated battles with now-fired showrunner Dan Harmon and much public griping about making a “mistake” by joining a sitcom (“the lowest form of television,” he said in an interview earlier this year), Chevy Chase is being let out of his contract and will exit Community, effective immediately.

According to Deadline.com, Chase is parting ways with show, and won’t appear in the few episodes yet to be shot for this season. According to “people close to the actor,” Chase has been increasingly frustrated with his character, feeling that the bigoted Pierce Hawthorne character had run its course.

Chase’s departure from the show will likely have little impact on Community, which is very likely to be cancelled after this season’s 13 episodes air.
