Chelsea Handler stepped in it when she made a joke aboutToday Showweather guy Al Roker that raised the ire of her bosses at Comcast, the cable giant that owns both NBC and E!, which airs Handler’s show. g

After Roker made a messy confession that he once accidentally “pooped my pants” at the White House, Handler made a joke on her show, Chelsea Lately, that referenced the incident along with rumours that Today‘s Matt Lauer orchestrated the firing of former co-anchor Ann Curry.

“This isn’t the first time a ‘Today Show cast member was in the news about this sensitive subject,” joked Handler on her show. “For years it was common knowledge that Matt Lauer spent every morning [s – – ting] all over Ann Curry.”

According toThe New York Post’s Page Six column, however, Comcast execs were not amused, and asked Handler to lay off. “Chelsea’s writers were warned to lay off Matt,” said “a source close to the show,” reports Page Six. “They don’t want them making more fun of Matt and the Ann Curry situation right now.”

In fact, there seems to be some bad blood between Handler and Today. Back in November, Handler cancelled a scheduled appearance on Today at the last minute, citing “food poisoning” — then appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon the same day, joking that her excuse “was a lie. I wasn’t sick.”

Then again, take this whole thing with a grain of salt. When asked by Page Six about this story, a spokesperson for E! denied it. “This is absolutely false, and no such request was made.”
