On Sunday, water cannons were fired and champagne glasses clinked as United Airline‘s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner took its inaugural flight from Houston the Chicago.
Described as a “game changer” by CEO Jeff Smisek, the new aircraft features perks like a pressurized cabin that produces more oxygen reducing instances of jet lag on both passengers and crew, larger windows that have tinting technology rather than shutters, better overhead storage allowing every passenger space for a rolling suitcase and ambient lighting that mimics the sky. Not too shabby. Each seat will also feature the requisite entertainment screens which I for one cannot fly without.
The biggest advancement of the Dreamliner and the one that United is most excited about is the composite exterior of the plane which makes it is lighter and allows for longer flight distances. Also, because the plane burns 20% less fuel, it promises to get you where you want to be, faster.
United is the first North American-based airline to get this new plane and the first flight served them well by arriving 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Here’s to yet another improvement in the way to get around! Now, if only there was a way to get around time-consuming line-ups in customs.
