And the votes are in…
After flipping through over 22,000 entries from more than 150 countries, National Geographic has finally announced the winners of their 2012 photo contest. Judged by a panel of industry experts including natural history photographer Christian Ziegler and documentary photographers Gerd Ludwig and Debbie Fleming Caffery, winners were selected in categories of Nature, People and Places.

This is probably one of my favourite photo contests of the year because the range of entries covers a full spectrum of genres from dramatic to beautiful, comical and historic. For me, the honourable mentions really stood out this year. I found the intensity of some of the “moments” truly breath-taking. Most amusing was the upside down squirrel by Micheal Eastman, which as far as I’m concerned, will also be the most memorable.
