Introducing the new American.

For months now there’s been a buzz in the travel world about an American Airlines and US Airways merger. As of Thursday, it appears to be official.

So what does that mean for passengers?

Many insiders have expressed concerns that a bigger airline will mean more expensive fares as American will now have even greater dominance over travel within the U.S. in particular. There’s also a concern that there will be a decrease in major hubs serviced by the airline which will affect travel for those living in those cities. That said, the airline has emphasized massive improvements in service and increased options for travellers now that they will be offering more than 6,700 daily flights. Their loyalty programs and VIP lounges will also get a boost as they amalgamate their assets.

If anything, this merger definitely shows that two good companies are coming together. The question now is, will two goods make a great?
