Professional – and sometimes recreational – sports are rough. In hockey specifically, concussions happen far too often. In order to address the issue, Reebok-CCM Hockey and startup MC10 have teamed up to develop a new skullcap that can be worn under any helmet.
The skullcap uses sensors to detect the severity of any given blow. While it can’t protect athletes from receiving a head injury, it can measure the impact and let a player know if it’s safe to resume playing or whether medical treatment is necessary.
The cap has been designed for all athletes regardless of skill level or age and will be available next year.
