Back in September, when Matthew Cordle posted a YouTube video (via the Because I Said I Would website), he promised to take full responsibility for driving under the influence of alcohol and ending a man’s life. In the video, Cordle urges other to not make the same mistake he did.

The video has garnered more than 2.3 million views, and on September 18th, the 22-year old made good on his promise and pled guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.

On Wednesday, Cordle was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. In a prepared statement he read during the sentencing hearing, Cordle said, “Whatever my sentence may be, there’s no such thing is a fair sentence when it comes to taking a life.”
