Look out Britney Spears. Beyonce Knowles, she of the Jay-Z dynasty and the powerful dance moves, has signed a $50 million dollar contract with Pepsi to act as the soft drink’s official spokesperson. The deal is teamed up with her highly anticipated Superbowl halftime show, which will show an exclusive advertisement starring the singer. Beyonce’s face is also set to appear on soft drink cans, as the brand will be connected in sponsorship of her 2013 tour. Most bizarre is Pepsi’s involvement in a multi-million dollar fund for Beyonce’s various “creative projects,” which could include music videos, photo shoots or live events. Said Beyonce in a statement, ““Pepsi embraces creativity and understands that artists evolve. As a businesswoman, this allows me to work with a lifestyle brand with no compromise and without sacrificing my creativity.” That’s all well and good, though the partnership has us wondering if soft drink brands should be involved in artist’s management.
