During a day of standout performances celebrating the second term of President Obama, Beyonce’s emotional rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” was one of the most flawless. It was a hallmark moment that celebrated her relationship with the Obama administration and the impact he’s had in popular culture. However, reports today may indicate that Beyonce’s stirring performance was pre-recorded. (A stunt she’s previously pulled at the Oscars in 2009.) Two suspicious photos via her personal Instagram account show the singer in a recording session holding a score for the song. And today a representative from the US Marine Corps confirmed that a pre-recorded session of Beyonce singing the song was recorded and used for the ceremonies. Said the source to a Washington media site: “We don’t know why Beyoncé decided to use prerecorded music. All music [for inaugural ceremonies] is prerecorded as a matter of course, and that’s something we’ve done for years and years. The Marine Band did perform live throughout the ceremony but we received last-minute word that Beyoncé wanted to use the recording.”

Does knowing Beyonce was lip-synching ruin the majesty of the performance for you? And why do you think she chose to do it? Comment below.
