An MP is saying the federal government needs to help connect students and youth with summer jobs.

Liberal MP Scott Brison is quoting statistics that show jobs for young people are in short supply, and the feds should reopen summer job centres the government recently closed and add funding to the Canada Summer jobs program.

According to statistics for the month of June, around 63.2 per cent of young adults from 20 to 24 returning to university in the fall have summer jobs, making the unemployment rate for that demographic 13 per cent. That’s significantly higher than the average rate for the rest of Canada.
