Consumers no longer have to manage their expectations when faced with a too-good-to-be-true airfare in an ad.

New rules from the federal government dictate that all advertisements for airfares must include all the appropriate fees and taxes within the advertisement. So airfare bargain hunters don’t have to worry about being slapped with hundreds in hidden extra fees on top of a low advertised price for a plane ticket.

The new rules take effect this week and are applicable for any flights originating or within Canada.

Advertisers could be fined up to $25,000 for repeat offences.
