Looks like the Canadian passport gravy train is about to come to a grinding halt. Passport Canada says it will be raising issuing fees starting in 2013.
The price hike will bump the five-year passport to $120 from $87, and the new 10-year ePassport will be offered at $160. Thats all while the price of issuing passports out of Canada might double.
The passport agency says it loses about $5 every time it issues a passport and that the fees are important to maintain the services and features the travelling document offers.
So, it might be worth a run to Passport Canada offices to replace your passports or get a new one before the new year.
