I want to like the Research in Motion guys, I really do. They’re a Canadian company after all, and were certainly pioneers in the international smartphone market. But man do they make it hard for me to not want to smack them. Blackberries are several shades of annoying (those teeny keyboards — ugh, dude), so that’s strike one. As for strike two and three, those come courtesy of this brand new ‘music video.’ It features a band assembled from assorted RIM vice presidents (Alec Saunders — VP Developer Relations & Ecosystem, Chris Smith — VP Application Platform & Tools, and Martyn Mallick — VP Global Alliances & Business) performing a customized version of REO Speedwagon’s Keep on Loving You.
Only, you know, replace the original lyrics about loving a girl with impossibly bad tech business-related yammering. Behold verse 1:
We’ve all seen these are challenging times, baby
‘Cuz we’re in transition
A whole new mobile computing platform
One tough proposition
I’d print more, but trust me, you can’t handle it. Nobody can. One small bit of good news: in the song title, they had the foresight to not replace the word ‘loving’ with their company name. Bullet dodged.
