“Shadow Pico” could be Bad Lip Reading’s strangest, funniest video to date. Considering how strange and funny some of Bad Lip Reading‘s previous videos have been, that’s saying a lot.
Unlike previous classics such as “Eye of the Sparrow” (which had Barack Obama uttering the immortal line, “In horrible weather, I sneeze, and I just lose the puppets”) and “Time to Rock” (a version of “Hot Problems” by Double Take which had the duo singing about gorillas), “Shadow Pico” does not rely entirely on bizarre non sequiturs. Instead, they’ve dubbed over their source material (“Gotta Be You” by the British boy band One Direction) in various foreign languages. Or, rather, in nonsense syllables that vaguely sound like words from various foreign languages.
So why are the members of One Direction speaking in different made-up languages? Well, that’s because their motion picture debut, Shadow Pico, just happens to be (somewhat improbably) a multi-language art house epic.
For extra hilarity, be sure to watch the video with the captions turned on.
