North America has spent the past couple of weeks gripped by the saga of college football phenom Manti Te’o. For those who’ve missed the hoopla, it turns out our young Hawaiian linebacker fell victim to a fellow who pretended to be his online girlfriend for the better part of a year. Oh, and then the same crazy fellow faked her death (car crash, followed by leukemia), and her subsequent return to life (she was just hiding from drug dealers, silly!). Although initial skepticism suggested Te’o was complicit in the bizarre affair, recent interviews, including last Thursday’s heart-to-heart with Katie Couric, suggest he was just a big ol’ naive rube.

Naturally, the Couric interview has since been autotuned for optimal comedic effect. Because that’s how society works now.

Enjoy.
