Geoff Mackley is a New Zealand filmmaker/photographer who loves him some volcano. Not the ‘science fair baking soda’ variety of volcano. Or the Sauron-infused, ring-cluttered Mordor-style volcano. We’re talking the real deal, pappy. Which may explain why this video has him at Vanuatu’s Ambrym Volcano, a mere 30 metres (!) from a little something I like to call 1150-DEGREE MOLTEN LAVA. An entire lake of it, to be exact. And courtesy of his nerdy-yet-chicks-love-it protective suit and breathing apparatus, ol’ Jeffers was able to stand there like a looky-loo for a record-breaking 40 minutes (the length of two Family Matters episodes minus commercials!). He’s an inspiration to anyone who’s ever felt the need to taunt vast quantities of liquefied igneous rock (guilty as charged — suck it, lava!).
